CONVERSATIONAL PROGRAMMING SOFTWARE FOR CNCs
Select machines from Okuma’s core product line now come equipped with theAdvanced One Touch-Interactive Graphics Function (AOT-IGF), a conversational programming software designed for Okuma’s lathes, machining centers, and multitasking machines. AOT enables shops to easily create simple part designs without the need for highly-trained programmers, achieve faster setuptimes, and increase machine productivity.
With AOT, a highly-intuitive graphical user interface provides step-by-step instructions that guide operators through the process of selecting material type, tooling, processes, and cutting motions for the desired part design. From there, the system then simulates the cutting process in a 3D graphical view before exporting the NC program. Using AOT to create custom programs allows shops tomaximize their machine tool’s full potential while eliminating concern regardingcorrect program syntax.
Okuma is offering a free 60-day trial of Advanced One Touch. The trial versionis for use on a PC and will provide an interactive preview of the functionalitiesand benefits of the software. You can download it at the link below.

A BIG MACHINE FOR BIG 5-AXIS WORK
The VMX60Ui 5-Axis CNC milling machine allows for full 5-Axis milling of complexshapes and geometries in various hard-wearing, corrosion-resistant alloys ranging from20 to 65 HRC. The VMX60Ui boasts a maximum working area of Ø500 mm and a maximumtable load of 400 kg. The CNC has a trunnion style machining center which provides anideal configuration for 5-sided machining, creating flexible and efficient manufacture ofcomponents with complex geometries. With software packages like WinMax and UltiMo-tion, machinists are able to reduce overall cycle time while enhancing surface finish due toits precision and accuracy. Combined with a 40-piece tooling station, the 5-axis machineallows users to get parts out faster. Typical end applications and industries include homogenizing pumps & valves, food & pharmaceuticals, oil & gas, aerospace, glass mold repairs, and others.
5-AXIS BRIDGE TYPE MACHINING CENTER
MB 650U Automatic Manufacturing Package (MB 650U AMP) blends theprecision and speed of Methods’ five-axis MB 650U and the convenience of thesix-pallet Indunorm automatic pallet changer (APC). The result is a versatile,high-precision machine capable of unattended, lights-out operation.
The compact APC gives the MB 650U AMP the ability to complete multipleworkpieces without the need for additional automation. The work envelopespans 19. 7 in. in diameter and 19. 7 in. in height, with a weight of 425 lb., allowing users to handle workpieces of various sizes and weights with ease. Theconfluence of the APC and the 48-tool automatic tool changer reduces setupand changeover times.
Accuracy is still at the core of the bridge-type machining center. Featuresinclude 21 hand-scraped surfaces, a BLUM spindle probe, and a laser tool probewith kinematic calibration capabilities—enabling precise, quick workpiece measurements. All five axes have Heidenhain scales, giving users the capacity toobtain more accurate measurements.
