The first successful tests took place in France (Levallois andLe Mans) as part of a multi-year cooperation. The solution uses aFenwick forklift combined with Phantom’s secure, network-ag-nostic, and interoperable remote operation software to enableremote workers to operate the vehicle, unlocking efficiency andequipment utilization gains. For example, one remote workercan operate multiple forklifts at a number of warehouses at different times of the day, all from one central location.
With remote operation software technology, digital driverscan remotely monitor multiple forklifts at once, and when intervention is needed, they can assist, either by giving a humancommand to the forklift, drawing a path, or even remotely drivethe forklift.
GEODIS remote operators, also referred to as digital drivers,
will be able to “teleport” between different vehicles and between
different warehouses with the click of a button, all from the
safety of a distant office. Phantom’s software provides remote
operators with real-time eyes and ears all around each vehicle,
enabling them to safely and confidently guide the vehicles from
Defending Against SoftwareSupply Chain AttacksTo help companies prevent cyber-attacks, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) devel- oped guidelines on how to use its Cyber Supply ChainRisk Management (C-SCRM) framework and the SecureSoftware Development Framework (SSDF) to identify, assessand mitigate risks.
A software supply chain attack occurs either when someone infiltrates a software vendor’s network and the code ispassed along when sold, or the attack can stem from a patchor hotfix. Whatever the method the “attack can affect all usersof the compromised software and can have widespread consequences for government, critical infrastructure and privatesector software customers,” NIST notes.
Truck in the Works
PACCAR and Aurora formed a partnership to devel- op, test and commercialize autonomous Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks. Both partners will work closely to-
gether on all aspects of the collaboration, from component
sourcing and vehicle technology to the integration of the
Peterbilt and Kenworth vehicles with the Aurora Driver. The
partnership also includes vehicle validation at the PACCAR
Technical Center and production support in factories.
The goal of this collaboration is to improve freight efficiency and safety for PACCAR’s customers. KenworthT680 and Peterbilt 579 trucks utilizing the Aurora Driverare expected to be deployed in North America in the nextseveral years. MH&L
